Aramean people: Aramean people (not to be confused with ‘Armenians’) speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Abraham, Moses and Jesus. They are the indigenous people of what was called in ancient times Aram- Nahrin, in our days it is called ‘Mesopotamia’.

Some Arameans today identify themselves with “Assyrians”, because of the spiritual colonial hate generating activities of the Western missionaries and diplomats in the Middle-East in 16th and 19th centuries. Other Arameans became known as “Chaldeans”. However all of them are Arameans. In Turkey, the Arameans are called: Süryani. In Arabic they are called Al- Suryan.

Through all the misery: Miracles happens in Iraq

Shall the blood shed of Mgr. Paulus Faraj Raho, priest Yusuf Adel Abudi, priest Ragied Aziz Gannie and priest Paulus Iskander cause fraternization between the various Aramean denominations in Iraq?

Dutch Version

West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox Priest Paulus Iskander killed on 12-10-2006 in Mosul.

East-Aramean Chaldean priest Ragied Aziz Gannie killed on 3-6-2007 in Mosul.

East-Aramean Chaldean bishop of Mosul, Paulus Faraj Raho, killed on 13-3-2008 in Mosul.

West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox Priest Yusuf Adel Abudi, killed on 5-4-2008 in Baghdad.

How would an average Westerner respond to the news that the Irish Reverend Ian Paisley is visiting Pope in Rome to drink coffee and read the Bible together? Probably with unbelief and amazement. And the media who would publish such story would probably not be taken serious. Yet, it seems that in Iraq such miracles being taking place. It seems as if the blood of Mgr. Faraj Raho, priest Yusuf Adel Abudi, Aziz Gannie and Paulus Iskander have brought about something to move in Iraq.

Through all the misery, desperation, bloodshed, deportations and murder, some events take place in Iraq which until recently by many would be designated as “impossible”. Here below we shall explain one and another.

The Western Protestant/Catholic hatred and hostility was also transported to Middle-East and implemented within the Aramean nation by the Western missionaries in the 16th and 19th centuries. This mutual hatred is just terrible. And some outsiders work very hard, probably because of ignorance, to maintain this hatred. There are in Iraq the following Aramean denominations:

  • West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox, around 80.000

  • West- Aramean Syrian Catholics, around 40.00

  • West- Aramean Syrian Melkites??????

  • East- Aramean Syrian Nestorian “Chaldeans, around 250.000- 300.000

  • East- Aramean Syrian Nestorian “Assyrians”, around 20.000

These denominations cannot stand each other and nourish unprecedented hatred towards each other. The Catholics as well as Protestants missions have persuaded and implemented this hatred within our nation to divide them. This colonial and spiritual intervention was carried out by blackmail and bribery of clergy, inciting son against father, daughter against mother, family against family, village against village, and caused unprecedented hatred and sorrow within our nation resulting in their decline in the Middle-East.

The East-Aramean “Assyrians” consider themselves superior and are so fanatical/ nationalistic that they seize every opportunity to force this fake name onto other denominations by means of lies, distortions and fallacies. They factually nourish a deep contempt towards other denominations, for they do not let them to be their doormat. Yet they repeatedly succeed to use some Western politicians as their doormat. The Chaldeans are less fanatic, however they have a deep contempt towards the West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox, for they consider them as ‘heretics’- a mentality which precisely  for centuries has been propagated and drummed in by Rome. The West- Aramean Syrian Catholics nourish exactly the same contempt towards Orthodox.

The only remaining peaceful and quite group, despised and neglected and pushed into the corner by the West, who try under very difficult circumstances to serve Jesus Christ of the Bible are the West-Aramean Syrian Orthodox.

The East- Aramean Nestoian professor John Joseph has made a thorough investigation to the behavior of the Catholic and Protestant missionaries. He gives couple of examples of the hatred between the missionaries in Urmia (Iran) active among the East-Aramean Nestorians. On page 98 of his book he is referring to original sources and quotes a protestant missionary about Catholics and writes, thou enemy of righteousness, thou child of the devil’, may be applied, that individual is the European Jesuit in his wily efforts to oppose and embarrass Protestant missionaries….. One of the first works of the American mission press in Urmiyah was a tract in Syriac entitled “twenty-two Plain reasons for not being a Roman Catholic”….The corrupt doctrines and practices of Catholics are exposed by an array of Scriptural texts (Page 98)

This kind of hatred was diffused and planted by both sides onto the minds of brainwashed, bribed and for the most part illiterate Aramean people,  taught in schools and seminaries and passed on from generation to generation.

The majority of Westerners have in the course of time wrested themselves from this mutual hatred. The problem is however that the time has been standing still ever since and we are still faced with this unprecedented mutual hatred and continues undiminished till our days. That is exactly also the case in Iraq.

The Killing of Mgr. Paulus Faraj Raho and priest Yusuf Adel Abudi has caused miracles.

The killing of the East- Aramean Chaldean bishop of Mosul, Mgr. Paulus Faraj Raho, the West-Aramean Syrian Orthodox priest Yusuf Adel Abudi has caused, from spiritual point of view, landslide in Iraq. By that we mean the positive rapprochement between various Aramean denominations. Almost everywhere in Iraq, particularly in the north, peaceful gatherings were organised participated by all denominations to deal with the terrible killing of Mgr. Paulus Faraj Raho. Centuries old walls of hatred, build up by the hate generating activities of Western missionaries in the 16th and 19th centuries, were pulled down and together the loss of Mgr. Faraj Raho was commemorated in prayer and tears. We will explain this by means of few examples:

1. 17-3-2008: Collective commemoration by the West- Aramean Syrian Catholics and Syrian Orthodox in the St. Smuni Church of Bartella.

The first miraculous event, which we wish to bring to your attention, was the collective procession and prayer in the Syrian Orthodox St. Smuni Church in Bartella, northern Iraq, to commemorate Mgr. Faraj Raho. Bartella is mainly being inhabited by the West- Aramean Orthodox and Catholics.

Peaceful procession in the streets of Bartella. West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox and Catholic clergy, brotherly standing near each other, leading the procession to the St. Smuni Syrian Orthodox Church in Bartella.

After procession through Bartella, a huge social prayer gathering was organized in the saloon of the Syrian Orthodox St. Smuni Church in Bartella in order to deal together with this atrocious murder. Various spiritual leaders took the floor to express their feeling about the cowardly killing.

West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox priest Quryakos speaks to the crowd. Quryakos is the nephew of the famous Patriarch Yakob III who also was from Bartella.

West- Aramean Syrian Catholic priest Samoun Bizzo speaks to the crowd.

West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox priest Samoun Kanna speaks to the crowd.

This happening is miraculous, because the hatred and disdain the Aramean Catholics nourish is so unprecedented that they rather would work together with their enemies than with their own flesh and blood.

This hatred for example became clearly visible in Holland. Some Aramean Catholic families from Iraq (Bartella, Baghdeda) took refuge in Holland. What did the Aramean Orthodox do? They went to refugee camps with their cars and invited them to the Syrian Orthodox Church and offered them food and hospitality. They made their church available to them to pray. Then a Aramean Catholic priest arrived from Iraq. Suddenly friendships were broken; they didn’t want anymore to have anything to do with their Orthodox brethren and behaved as strangers.

In Iraq this is much worse! They rather work together with a Muslim than with their fellow Christians. This is fanaticism mixed with faith! And who was responsible to plant all this in their hearts? It was not fairies or Martians. No, this terrible symptom was caused by the West, in this case, planted and acquired by the Catholics.

2. 16-3-2008: A collective service by East- and West- Arameans in the East- Aramean Chaldean St. Addia Church in Karemlesh.

The second miraculous and at the same time touching example was the commemoration on Sunday 16-3-2008 in Karemlesh.

On Sunday 16-3-2008 a collective service was held in the East- Aramean Chaldean St. Addia Church in Karemlesh. The service was conducted by Mgr. Sleimun Warduni, auxiliary bishop of Chaldean church in Baghdad. The service was attended by clergy and deacons of the West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox and Syrian Catholic Church. Among them were present Mgr. Saliba Shamoun (Orthodox), Mgr. Isaak Saka (Orthodox) and Mgr. Baselius Qasmusa (Catholic).

After finishing the service by Mgr. Sleimun Warduni in the East- Aramean dialect, the West-Arameans started to pray and sing in west- Aramaic dialect. It was extraordinary moving, yet also miraculous that they brotherly were standing near each other to pray.

3. Thursday 27-3-2008: West- Aramean Catholics and Orthodox commemorate collectively the killing of Mgr. Faraj Raho in Qaraqos (Baghdeda)

From left to right: Mgr. Isaak saka, Mgr. Saliba Chamoun and Mgr. Baselius Circis Qasmusa (Catholic).

A big collective gathering was held by the West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox and Catholics in Qaraqos, north of Iraq. Among the many participants were the Syrian orthodox bishop of Mosul Mgr. Saliba Shamoun, the Syrian Orthodox bishop Isaac Saka and the Syrian Catholic bishop Baselius Circis Qasmusa. In addition, there were of course also many deacons, priests and monks. A peaceful procession took place after which a collective service was held in the church of St. Gorgis to commemorate Mgr. Faraj Raho. A exceptional miraculous event!

4. Sunday 6-4-2008: The East- Aramean Chaldean Patriarch Amannuel Delly conducts a part of the funeral service of priest Yusuf Adel Abudi.

Patriarch Amannuel Delly conducts a part of service and reads the Bible.

A fourth and last miraculous event and fraternization between the Arameans was the exceptional impressive funeral service in the Syrian Orthodox St. Paulus and St. Petrus Cathedral of Baghdad. All the Aramean denominations were present. The East- Aramean Chaldean Patriarch Amannuel Delly led the heaviest delegation, who participated with his bishops, monks and nuns. During the service however, a miracle took place when the huge wall of hatred, implanted and diffused by the Western missionaries, was smashed down by Patriarch Ammanuel Delly by conducting the service with reading the Bible.

Western politicians and clergy....

There are some Western politicians and clergy who in honesty are concerned about the situation of Christians not only in Iraq but in other parts of Middle-East as well. This people work very hard and want in all sincerity to help the Aramean Christians. Unfortunately, they are very bad informed by which their efforts may sort misunderstandings with the people in question, no matter how noble their intentions might be. Because of their lack of knowledge regarding the hate-generating issues of the past, their well-meaning and sincerity can easily be misused by persons who strife for personal agenda.

The message to this well-intentioned people is this one: If you really want to help the persecuted Iraqi Christians, first thing you have to do is to help unify them. As long as there is hatred and discord, they always will suffer as slaves under the yoke of others. They will suffer twice as others. And indeed this explains their present rough situation in Iraq.

How to help Christians in Middle-East, in particular in Iraq? The answer is: start with the beginning, namely: First help to unify.

All the other support will only help temporarily. That is why there is a important task for the Catholics and Anglicans who have been de cause for this sorrow and division.

The Spiritual cultural genocide is committed by the West. The Western diplomats and missionaries have invented the lie- identities “Assyrians” (19th century) and “Chaldeans” (16th century) by means of bribery, blackmail and brainwashing and forced this fake name onto the Aramean nation through which they were uprooted from their origin. Following that, the missionaries and diplomats incited the nation against each other by planting unbridgeable mutual hatred and division –proved by the present fanaticism where some fake Arameans who call themselves “Assyrians” avail themselves off.

This was machinated by inciting family against family, daughter against mother, son against father, village against village, destroying of their cultural heritage by imposing fake identities, introducing a fanatical form of nationalism, splitting their church, bribing and brainwashing of their leaders with the aim of weakening etc.. etc..

The unholy activities started in the 16th century in the name of “Jesus”- we should of course not confuse this “Jesus” with the Jesus Christ of the Bible who is nobody but the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob in a Human Body.

In the 16th century the Western Catholic missionaries came to the Middle-East, which then was a homogenous area without borders, and brainwashed a part of the East- Aramean clergy by means of bribery to call themselves “Chaldeans” with the result that the Aramaic language became known as “Chaldean” language and a part of the Aramean nation became known as “Chaldean” nation in some parts of the Western literature, the first attack on the Aramean heritage.

As a result of mutual hatred and competition between the Western Catholics and Protestants, in the late 19th century the same process was repeated, this time by the Anglican missionaries, and the other part of the East- Aramean “Nestorian” tribes of Hakkari (bordering Turkey and Iraq) and Urmia (Iran) to call themselves "Assyrians"- a term which was used purely geographically and only applied to the "Nestorians". This ha resulted in that Aramaic became known as “Assyrian” language and the Aramean nation as “Assyrian” nation- this was the second and more severe attack on the Aramean heritage- a kind of spiritual genocide.

By this, the Anglicans have made out of the East- Aramean Nestorians, fanatical nationalistic racists who not only hate their own people, but also exude hatred and racism towards others resulting in terrible situation for our people not only in Iraq but in entire Middle-East.

The Anglicans and Catholics should together make a plan of approach to rehabilitate the thoroughly divided and mangled Arameans of Mesopotamia by teaching them their genuine Aramean history and stop in glorification of the by themselves invented fake and objectionable names “Assyrians” and “Chaldeans”.

This will be the starting point of the gradual recovery of the Aramean nation. After the Arameans denominations are united under the Aramean flag, it will be for Anglican and Roman Catholic Church much easier to, although spiritually divided, unify them on the spiritual level.

After all, if they understand that they have a common goal on the national level,  this will have repercussions for the spiritual field as well!

All the other attempts will only help temporarily, on long term it will be doomed to fail.
