Aramean people: Aramean people (not to be confused with ‘Armenians’) speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Abraham, Moses and Jesus. They are the indigenous people of what was called in ancient times Aram- Nahrin, in our days it is called ‘Mesopotamia’.

Some Arameans today identify themselves with “Assyrians”, because of the spiritual colonial hate generating activities of the Western missionaries and diplomats in the Middle-East. Other Arameans became known as “Chaldeans”. However all of them are Arameans.

Iraq (Baghdad)- Today, 5-4-2008, the Aramean people, also made known as "Assyrians" and Chaldean, again were shocked by the killing of a innocent and peace loving Aramean spiritual leader in Baghdad, Iraq.

 

After the horrible and cowardice killing of the East- Aramean Chaldean bishop of Mosul, Mgr. Paulus Faraj Raho on 13-3-2008 the terrorists again stroke against the Aramean nation in Iraq. The victim this time is the 47 years aged West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox priest Yusuf Adel Abudi.

 

Yusuf Adel Abudi is now the forth Aramean spiritual leader in line who is being killed. After publication of an article on the website of www.asianews.it (see below), we contacted Baghdad and the horrible news was confirmed to us. This is the such-and-such brutal and criminal murder of a Aramean spiritual leader to terrify the Aramean nation, also known as "Assyrians" and Chaldeans, in order to cast them out of country. Syro-Orthodox priest killed in Baghdad

 

He was Youssef Adel, aged 40, director of a mixed Christian-Muslim school. He had been the target of threats and intimidation in an effort to make him quit. His funeral is tomorrow at the cathedral.

Baghdad (AsiaNews) - A Syro-Orthodox priest was killed by gunfire today in Baghdad, in the Christian neighbourhood of Zayiuna.  The news is confirmed by sources of the same Orthodox Church.  The victim was Youssef Adel, aged 40, of the Church of Saint Peter.  According to the reconstruction of the attack, the priest was travelling in his car when around noon (local time) armed men opened fire.

The priest was the director of a high school that was attended by both Christians and Muslims, young men and young women.  He had been the target of threats and intimidation intended to drive him away from his post, but he did not pay any attention to them.  Recently he had celebrated a prayer meeting open to all Christians.  His funeral will be held tomorrow in the Syro-Orthodox Cathedral of Baghdad.

The attack this morning is only the latest in a series that have been striking at the heart of the Christian community in Iraq.  Not even a month ago, on March 13, the body of Faraj Rahho, the Chaldean archbishop of Mosul, was found.  He had been kidnapped on February 29 by a terrorist group.
